Project Magenta A320 in Prepar3D at Atlanta

Lockheed Martin announced Prepar3D Fuse in December. A few words on what it is, and what it is not.

Prepar3D Fuse is a new platform on Unreal Engine 5: a whole-earth terrain database from Blackshark.ai, sensor simulation, and the DIS and CIGI standards of military training. For now it is sold inside Lockheed Martin’s own simulators and through a few partners, priced per image generator channel. There is a waiting list for a public release, with no date. And existing Prepar3D add-ons will not run on it unmodified. Lockheed Martin says so itself.

So it is not Prepar3D version 7. Prepar3D stands at 6.1, is still sold and delivered, and asked whether it is being retired, Lockheed Martin answers no: they plan to continue to support it. What works today keeps working. Not a bad thing for a device that has to fly every morning.

For us nothing changes. Project Magenta runs on Prepar3D, X-Plane, Microsoft Flight Simulator and FlightGear, on one PC or across the network with pmWideClient, and Prepar3D stays supported for as long as our customers run it. Should Fuse ever become something a civil training device can buy, we will look at it and tell you what we find.
