12/11/08 False Positives We have had reports of some false positives (in several of our zip updates) being reported by certain virus checkers.

For instance, the TR/Dropper.Gen (trojan) is reported. Our executable files are not infected, and the detection should be corrected with the next AV cycle update.

24/08/08 Updates Several new builds have been uplodad to the Updates page. They mostly concern user feedback and some smaller features.

Development has also been stalled by some new hardware implementation, mostly for Airbus, more about that soon.

Navigraph has been kind enough to provide us with a new set of navdata, that can be found in the "latest" section.

01/08/08 PM Updates New Builds and Updates:

I would like to apologize for the long delays with much needed updates... more are planned in the next summer weeks.

As a lot of additional feedback has been received, the intended process has been slowed down a bit, but we do keep track of requests and reports.

09/03/08 FCU & G2 FCU Build 277

added last serial command display for hardware debugging within FCU window
enable SerialLog=On or switch on Log Serial Comm Data in the Menu (press Esc)

This is to monitor and understand EFIS selector issues which seem to be outstanding with G2 hardware. Please contact us if you have an FDS FCU for feedback.

We would need the FCU.LOG file (Log=On) as well as some information with the serial log enabled. Thank you for your help.

Build 277 can be found in the "latest version" folder, see updates page for link.

03/03/08 Software Updates www.projectmagenta.com/updates.html

Updates for Flight Deck Solutions G2 Firmware V1.10 (FCU EFIS handling in particular)
CPFlight FCU Implementation
CPFlight 737 Pro Implementation

01/12/07 Airbus and FSX FSX & PM FCU

General: At this time, to use the FCU software with FSX you will have to disable the AP gauge in the FSX panel.cfg of the aircraft type you are using for flight with the PM / MCP software. Generally if not using a panel at all in MSFS, then the only section you need in the panel.cfg is the section referring to [VIEWS] everything else can be deleted. Please *always* keep a back-up of your original files in case you have to revert back.

1/ If using the default FSX Airbus, you must disable the FBW command in the aircraft.cfg file: fly_by_wire = 0

2/ Use either the above method re the panel.cfg or copy a FS2004 737 panel.cfg for the Airbus, this is to ensure that the AP functions work.

3/ Make sure you use FCU build 273 & above

4/ Make sure FSUIPC and WideFS are fully up-to-date with current versions.

All of the above are required for correct operation of the FCU in FSX. If using another add-on third party a/c model, make sure also that the above items are conformed to.

29/09/07 Boeing MCP and FSX At this time, to use the MCP software with FSX you will have to disable the AP gauge in the FSX panel.cfg of the aircraft type you are using for flight with the PM / MCP software. Generally if not using a panel at all in MSFS, then the only section you need in the panel.cfg is the section referring to [VIEWS] everything else can be deleted. Please *always* keep a back-up of your original files in case you have to revert back.

Make sure you have this line in your FSUIPC4.ini (only FSX)

23/05/07 Navdata Updates - the version of the navdata is now being displayed in the FMC
- ideally, please do not mix up old navdata with the newer builds
- Navigraph navdata of newer cycles should include the converter version 10
- (this can be checked on the IDENT page NAV DATA PM-XXX-10)

Should you find inconsistencies with SID/STAR data, please make sure you are running the navdata on www.projectmagenta.com/latest.html

06/05/07 Documentation Updates An updated version of our documentation is now available on www.projectmagenta.com/docs.html
12/01/07 Navdata Updates As previously announced, our Navdata updates from January 18th on will be available via Navigraph Navdata Service ... this data is being generated using a converter written especially for the new service since DAFIF became unavailable at the end of last year.

A test version of the 1206 data cycle is available on www.projectmagenta.com/latest.html in the navdata subfolder.

22/12/06 Price Change Update Based on customer requests, we have postponed the implementation of the new pricelist to February 1st 2007, i.e. the current pricing is valid until January 31st 2007.

Moreover, the new prices would apply also to our existing customers, what is not affected is their right to receive support and updates.

12/12/06 CPFlight MIP Change Please note, firmware 2.00 and later introduce a command from the MIP which switches on all lights in the MIP if the Light Test switch is on, to switch all lights off, make sure the switch is in the off position.
07/12/06 Clarification concerning Software updates Just to clarify some things which have somehow been misrepresented in some places. The price changes which are planned for next year have absolutely no impact on our existing customers regarding support and updates. This is something which should be taken for granted.

The shift in our mid-term focus on professional applications does not affect our user's rights to receive updates and support, as well as make specific requests concerning any of our software. Nothing whatsoever changes for our customers, no matter since when they have been using our software.

Should you have any questions or hear otherwise, please let us know.
06/12/06 User Forum The current Project Magenta forum, a long-standing 'tradition" of ours, will be shut down in the near future. This is done to definitively shift any form of support requests completely to e-mail. Thus for Project Magenta support, please use support@projectmagenta.com. The decision was not taken light-heartedly but it has become a necessity.

As the forums are also a meeting-place for our customers, IFSBI has kindly agreed to add a dedicated Project Magenta forum for that purpose. It can be found in the Forum sections of www.ifsbi.org - many thanks to everyone involved.

01/12/06 New Team Member It is a great pleasure to announce that Thomas Richter (Germany) has now joined the Project Magenta Team.

Thomas has been a customer for a considerable amount of time and he has proven to be both extremely resourceful with pmSystems in particular and active in our newsgroups in general. In addition to this, he will also be using his talents with our upcoming simulator projects.

Having met him several times in the past, it quickly became clear that it would be of great benefit if he could be won over into our team... well, it was a success.

From now on, he can be reached via
support@projectmagenta.com as well as thomas@projectmagenta.com
01/12/06 SpamCop It appears SpamCop has decided that e-mails from our server (projectmagenta.com) has been generating spam and they have placed us on their list. Should you be missing replies, the most probable reason is that they have been filtered out. We have contacted both our provider and SpamCop directly.
06/11/06 Navdata For more than 6 years we have regularly supplied 28 day nav data cycles, free of chage, which were based on the Dafif Nav Database. After this has been discontinued last month, we have come to an agreement with Navigraph representative Richard Stefan to make data in our format available via their subscription site. This resolves the issue with the supply of data and at the same time it will allow a much better quality service based on this new data.

As soon as the new converter is ready and tested, we will supply a first nav data set for the Setups of all software, after that the navdata will be made available exclusively via www.navigraph.com.

05/11/06 Project Magenta
New Promo Video
We have uploaded a new Promo Video as an overview of what we have to offer with our current software and hardware... more to come soon. www.projectmagenta.com/video.html
19/10/06 Price Changes Notice Important: We are currently working on a new pricelist which will become effective on January 1st 2007. The new pricing structure will be at least 30-50% higher than the current one but we will also be adding package prices for complete solutions. QuickMap will probably be discontinued as a product and we will only offer it as a part of the Instructor Station.
14/10/06 FSUIPC4/WideFS7
Released
FSUIPC4 and WideFS7 have been released for FSX. Previous versions (i.e. 3 and 6) of that software will not work with FSX. Project Magenta software will connect seamlessly to FSX with FSUIPC/WideFS.

Just to clarify further, Project Magenta does not sell the FSX version of FSUIPC4/WideFS7. To purchase it, please follow the SimMarket link on www.schiratti.com/dowson.html

01/10/06 FSX Compatibility
FSUIPC4/WideFS7
Project Magenta software is going to be compatible to FSX, some features will actually be enhanced by the new version of the Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Peter Dowson's new FSUIPC and WideFS will be made available to new customers purchasing one of the suites (we essentially pay Peter directly), but please specify for which version of Flight Simuator you request them for. We will not be able to provide new keys for FSX retroactively.
08/06/06 New Documentation A completely new PDF format document which is our new Project Magenta Docmentation has been uploaded to www.projectmagenta.com/docs.html

Please let us know your comments for this first version.

21/04/06 FAQ/Wiki We have installed a mediawiki on the server (cfr www.wikipedia.org) which will allow us to add articles with frequently asked questions as well as reference documents regarding our software and the art of cockpit building. Customers and other users are very welcome to register and add articles of their own.

The link for this new feature is www.projectmagenta.com/wiki

19/04/06 General Aviation
Glass Cockpit
A Demo of the GAGC has been uploaded to www.projectmagenta.com/latest.html - please let us know if you have any questions. The software will be available for purchase very soon now.
31/03/06 Forum/Mailinglists In the coming days the mailing list database may be re-set. If you have subscribed to any forum as a mailing list, then you might have to re-enable the option once it is re-set. This does not affect the forum messages and newsgroup access via NNTP.
12/02/06 Windows Component Recently some components of the software have been changed to Visual Studio 6, you may need the newer msvbvm60 dll file, please click here for the download (goes into your Windows/System32 subfolder)
13/01/06 Recommended Graphics Drivers nVIDIA the 44.03 for the TNT, TNT2, GeForce 2, 3 and 4. The 66.93 drivers for the FX series
ATI
Radeon 5.6 drivers
29/12/05 Weather Radar Display This may be a solution for users without an FMC for the weather option...

A new pmGetweather was uploaded to
www.projectmagenta.com/updates.html - if you run the program and exit it, it will create a new entry called DefaultDirectory= ... just enter your RJ path there and weather data is copied into the local folder. (e.g. DefaultDirectory=\\mycomputer\c\PMRJ

For this option to work, there must be an entry, or it will not work... in this case, it might be best to copy pmGetWeather into a folder of its own.
28/12/05 Aircraft Config Files A new feature is being introduced to the aircraft config files, it allows you to make (force) multiple settings of the Glass Cockpit without having to change the INI files. This way type or Airline Specific definitions can be made in one single file. This is implemented in builds with an EXE date after 28/12/2005 for Boeing. This can be made for Airbus as well if necessary, it is just more of an issue with all the various Boeing settings).

Most if not all FMC and Glass Cockpit INI file settings can be used in the aircraft configuration file, you will find comments next to the INI file entries to identify what they do. Please let us know your suggestions if something is not working as expected or you have additional ideas.

This way, once the FMC is connected you can re-load a different aircraft file and it will change your settings as specified.

Example:

AircraftType=B737-700
NDArc=On // (arc rings in the ND)
AOAShow=On //displays Angle of Attack Gauge
Text=white //FMC text color
GreyTape=Off //Spd, Alt, Hdg etc with a blue hue
ISIS=On
StandByFlapIndicators=On
etc.
AircraftType=B747-400
NDArc=Off
AOAShow=Off
Text=green
GreyTape=On
ISIS=Off
AnalogHorizon=On
StandByFlapIndicators=Off
etc.

or:

AircraftType=B747-400UA
NDMapHDG=Off //would display TRK Up on the ND rather than HDG

AircraftType=B747-400BA
NDMapHDG=On

24/07/05 Website We are currently re-working the contents of the main website, so there might be some incongruences for a short period.
28/05/05 Glass Cockpits ISIS Update: the current beta builds in www.projectmagenta.com/latest.html now allow the use of the standby RMI together with the new ISIS (integrated standby instrument system)
14/05/05 CDU/MCDU OpenGL Text Display With the current test builds of the Airbus-Type MCDU and the Boeing-Type CDU we are starting to implement OpenGL text graphics positioning which allow for a much closer look and feel of the various FMC pages.

The displays (both in full screen and bitmap mode) will now have 24 columns and 14 lines like the real ones (as opposed to variable length as it was before). Backeward-compatibility will of course be ensured should your graphics card not be able to handle the change. To activate the modes you can:

- edit the INI file ([OpenGL Section])
- press Ctrl-O to toggle OpenGL in the normal and Ctrl-Shift-O in Full Screen Mode
- the width, ratio, fontsize can be controlled via a Menu, keyboard commands or the INI file (see the XXXChanges.txt files for instructions)

These changes will be migrated to the RCDU and RMCDU as well.

14/05/05 PM Instructor Station To round off our product line and because of the mid-term need for such a solution, we are announcing an all-new product based on an 'ancient' one.

The Project Magenta Instructor station will be an OpenGL application which runs on top of QuickMap (commercial details are not available yet) providing a very easy to use interface for a number of settings within the flight simulator and the rest of our software.

The basic feature list:

  • Overhead Panel Interaction, Basic Settings (Cold/Dark etc.)
  • Systems/Failure Control
  • Position Control (free and relative settings)
  • Environment/Weather Control
  • Load/Fuel Handling
  • Approach Display and Analysis
  • Instrument Display
  • Aircraft Attitude Display
  • Outside View
  • Map Display (can be disabled)
  • Flight Data Logging/Playback

Of course, as always, we rely on our customer's feedback to make this software as easy to use and powerful as possible.

We will soon be in a position to provide estimates for its availability as well as sample screenshots / demo versions.

12/05/05 Build Update Nearly all programs have new builds in the main update page at the time of this writing please check the XXChanges.txt file for more information.
www.projectmagenta.com/updates.html
05/05/05 Navdata Update The new Navdata Cycle 0505 should correct the problem with the missing SID/STAR data
22/04/05 General Aviation
Glass Cockpit
We'll soon make a Demo of the General Aviation Glass Cockpit available, this new type of display for smaller aircraft will become more and more the standard in the coming years, and we do not want to miss the chance of being able to offer it to our customers.

16/04/05 pmSystems The A340 and 777 definition files have been included to the beta builds, direct Phidget and FSBUS implementation announced.

18/04/05 Glass Cockpit Integrated Standby Instrument System (ISIS) added to both Airbus and Boeing Type Software

These instruments can be enabled via the Menu, press ESC and find this new option close to the Standby Instrument settings

28/12/04 System Displays/
Synoptics
The placeholders for 777, 747 and 320/340 have been implemented.

To select a lower EICAS/ECAM page press F3 (engine page) then Shift-Tab to toggle upper and lower display. You can go through the pages with Ctrl-Tab or Ctrl-PgUp/PgDn

Both upper and lower are displayed on the F7 page. To reset positions press Ctrl-Shift-R

The various types of synoptics and system displays depend on the aircraft type defined in the aircraft configuration file as well as the number of engines the Glass Cockpit detects.

To have a 777 Synoptic active, you need to have an aircraft with 2 engines and the aircraft name should have 777 in it in the aicraft config file.

Please note: the 737 aircraft (in real life) has no synoptics at all.

14/12/04 NetDir The easiest way to set the NetDir is as follows:

The CDU/MCDU have inside their folder a subfolder called "NetDir". Right-Click on the NetDir folder, select the "Shared" tab and share it over the network as "Netdir" - remember to set read/write access as well.

You should then have a netdir with the name \\computername\netdir thus if your computer name is CDU, it will be \\cdu\netdir

This will be detected by the CDU/MCDU and it will be used automatically. Use pmFileChecker to verify its operation.

12/12/04 CDU/MCDU
Full Screen
In the CDU/MCDU programs, press the MENU (AB: MCDU/MENU) twice, then select DISPLAY (new page on the MCDU) and then FULL SCREEN.

There are three modes... TEXT (to position the text), FRAME (to position the frame around the text) and FONT (to size/reset the font type).

As a reminder, to enable full screen mode in the FMC, set Full=On in the INI file.

01/11/04 Glass Cockpits
EICAS/ECAM
This affects both Airbus and Boeing Glass Cockpits.

In order to get the proportions and position of the synoptics and systems displays right, I now have to fix the x/y/z positions frames (the bitmaps around the displays) on the F3 (engine) and F7 (upper and lower engine) pages.

I.e. from the next builds on you won't be able to select a frame with Ctrl-Backspace and re-position it... the frame will move around with the graphics within them.

I may eventually have to do this for the PFD and ND as well so I apologize
for any inconvenience this may cause, but I see no way around this right
now... things are getting to close to the border.
11/11/04 Website Server move complete.

We have a new Forum/Newsgroup.

To access it, please go to www.projectmagenta.com and click on Newsgroup in the top bar, it allows web-based access as well as newsreaders and you can activate it as a mailing list as well. A direct link to the page is www.projectmagenta.com/newsgroup.html

11/11/04 Navdata Update The Navdata Cycle for 0412 is now online, please go to www.projectmagenta.com/navdata.html for the download.
09/10/04 Airbus Glass Cockpit ATT/MAP indication in Glass Cockpit
As some things with pmSystems are being implemented, you might see this in your PFD/ND displays... to make the display come back again, just press ALIGN IRS > on the MCDU INIT page. Individual bits in offsets will be provided for the various individual items with pmSystems.

29/09/04 NetDir Folder Folders sharing:

If you see the red DISPLAY FAIL window in the CDU, received a network error message in the CDU or experience a lack of V-Speeds, Flaps or Flight Plan display in the PFD make sure about the following:

- the file and printer sharing service is installed and active for the network protocol used
- you have created and shared a \cdu\netdir or pmmcdu\netdir folder with read/write access and the share name NETDIR
- the cdu.ini file entry for the netdir should be in the format
\\machine_name\netdir, example: the computer running the CDU is called
FMSCOMP, the entry will be netdir=\\FSMCOMP\NETDIR

If your NetDir= entry in the CDU.INI file is something like c:\cdu\netdir then it will *not* be shared across the network

Other required shares for our programs to communicate properly with FS and display or save FS flight plans:
- share the FS folder with read/write access
- for FS9 share the \My Documents\Flight Simulator Files folder with the share name FSPLANS, if using XP make sure that this folder is not private

Note: share name does not mean renaming an existing folder, this is the name given to the share that you are creating

13/09/04 pmSystems Demo Release Candidata - The EXE for the setup is 1.8 MB and it might be updated several times a day (the only thing to go by is the server date and time indication), the instructions file will be updated as well.
- The software can not be purchased yet... please check our newsgroup for more information
www.projectmagenta.com/newsgroup.html

Some initial documentation is on
www.projectmagenta.com/docs.html

The setup program can be found on
www.projectmagenta.com/latest.html
12/09/04 757/767 EICAS I was sure I mentioned it before, so here just is the information just in case. The boeing Glass Cockpit can be switched to the 767 EICAS mode by using any of 757-200, 767-200 , 767-300 as the Type= in the aircraft configuration file as well as EFIS=On and/or EADI=On (see below). Three pages of this type of EICAS are covered and shown (by pressing the Tab key)

10/09/04 pmSystems Information on pmSystems released, First Phase Demo to be released in September. www.projectmagenta.com/pmsystems.html
09/09/04 nVidia Drivers nVidia drivers that seem to be working best right now: Versions 30.82 or 44.03 from the archive at www.nvidia.com
01/09/04 Latest Builds www.projectmagenta.com/latest.html has the latest re-compiled builds, they will be moved to the main section shortly.
17/05/04 BGC "Disagree" If you see the message "EFIS MODE / NAV FREQ DISAGREE" in the Boeing ND, it means that either an ILS frequency is selected and the ND is in VOR mode or you have a VOR selected and the ND is in APP mode. I.e. the selected frequency and navaid is disagreeing with the selected EFIS mode.

28/04/04 New Builds I have returned to the old system of having a preliminary (or "latest") build page where current new builds are released before they go to the main updates page.

13/03/04 Networking Here is a list of tips to make sure your network runs as fast as possible... this mostly applies to XP systems because they seem to be the most popular ones:
  • avoid any "Auto" settings in the network "LAN Settings" for the Link Speed / Duplex, e.g. use "100 Full Duplex" rather than "Auto"
  • Set the "receive Buffer" of your network card as high as possible
  • Disable the "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk..." in your "Local Disk Properties", as it really slows down network file transfer
  • Limit your FS frame rate, avoid "unlimited" 30 FPS should be enough for most, use 50 fps if you must and your hardware can handle it. High or Unlimited settings will leave WideServer very little time to process network traffic and will result in pauses in the connected programs.
  • turn off automatic updates
  • assign an IP address for every machine, do not use automatic settings for that
  • disable network authentication IEEE 802
  • if you have control, turn off system restore disable automatic syncronize internet time
14/02/04 A-GC, B-GC, pmRJ, QM, WUP FS flight plan loading/sharing as fsplans.pdf
11/02/04 Update Common Information (Registration, Network etc.) ... added NetDir section to be in sync with recent changes
12/03-01/04 A-GC, B-GC, pmRJ, pmGAIFR The Glass Cockpit software, GAIFR now have a new menu system, to access it you press the Esc key
01/04 B-GC The "Old EFIS" type displays can be set in two ways:

  1. In the aircraft configuration file enter:
    - EFIS=On
    - EADI=On (for 767 with speed tape)

    Please note that this applies only to aircraft with 737, 757 and 757 in their names, with the exception of the 767-400
  2. Selecting the option in the Menu (press ESC) on the right side.
01/04 B-GC If you see blank displays in the Boeing Glass Cockpit with ATT in the PFD and MAP in the ND ... you have two options:
  1. Enter your origin airport in LSK2L, the lat/lon will appear to the right of it.
    Press LSK2R, the LAT/LON is copied to the scratchpad.
    Press LSK4R, the LAT/LON is entered into the set IRS POS prompt
    Your GC should light up normally.

    When this is not done, the PFD/ND will work as soon as you are airborne... not realistic but a workaround...
  2. You don't want all that fuss, you go to MENU SETTINGS and cycle PREFLIGHT to OFF or ON, not FULL...
